Jeremiah 1:7 is a program approved by the archbishop, Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, and administered by the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. The program is grounded in the USCCB Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People established in 2002. The program’s objective is to help form teenagers in grades 9-12 who will be serving in a ministerial role that has regular contact with children and youth under the age of 18. This extends to personal contact for events of longer duration such as serving on a retreat team. The program’s primary aim is to provide safe environment formation for those high school-age youth who are assisting those adults engaged in ministry with children under the age of eighteen. In this way, the Church can better protect the safety and well-being of all children within ministry programs or events.
In the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, any high school-age youth serving in a ministerial role with children and other youth under the age of eighteen should be strongly encouraged to complete the age-specific safe environment formation program.
