I think all of us are keenly aware of the challenges of evangelization that is at the heart of our experience. This is why I want to ask you to help me and help all of us to understand how to live the challenge at the present time? ... How can we communicate faith effectively today?
How can we live as a poor Church and for the poor? How does a suffering person pose a question for our faith?
What is the worst evil to befall the Church?
What practical, effective contribution can all of us make to the Church and to society in order to address the grave crisis that is affecting public ethics, that is to say, a new way of being human?
I would like to do more, but what? How can I help the poor, how can I alleviate their suffering since I can do nothing or only very little to change their political and social context?
Priests are to be shepherds with the smell of their sheep, I say to you: be everywhere heralds of the word of life. We must tell each other the truth: the work of evangelizing, of freely carrying grace ahead, is not easy, because we are not alone with Jesus Christ; there is also an adversary, an enemy who wants to keep men separate from God. Scandals "shame the Church" and arose where there is no "bond with God."
The faith must be proposed, never imposed and in its basic core, what shines forth is the beauty of the saving love of God made manifest in Jesus Christ who died and rose from the dead.
